The annual Charles F. Gregory Memorial Lecture is dedicated to the memory of the first Division Chief of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He served as Chief from 1956 until 1976 and ushered in our first Academic Orthopaedic program that we follow today. This year's guest speaker is Dr. John Anthony “Tony” Herring. Orthopedic Surgery healthcare professionals will discuss the toll and emotional effects on the surgeon following surgical complications. Our 7 graduating residents will present their best scholarly activity that will examine current orthopaedic topics of interest to orthopaedic surgeons. 

Target Audience

This activity provides informative sessions that are tailored to current updates in orthopaedic surgery and as such is appropriate for all orthopedic providers and healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss the unique challenges faced by orthopedic surgeons in their daily practice to include the intricacies of surgical decision-making, patient management, and navigating professional challenges.
  2. Identify and discuss the broader issues beyond daily medical practice and gain insights into the paths to greatness followed by exemplary physicians.
  3. Discuss the importance of maintaining a sense of purpose and fulfillment in one's medical career, even in the face of challenges and adversity.
  4. Identify the current treatment options for common orthopedic conditions, including musculoskeletal issues.
  5. Apply principles of competency-based training methods to practice in order to proactively address musculoskeletal issues in both adult and pediatric orthopedic surgery.
