Heart Failure Symposium 2025 (RP2505B)
Overview
This one-day in-person Symposium addresses contemporary management of patients with advanced heart failure, divided into lectures and panel discussions on guideline-directed medical therapy, exercise testing, pulmonary hypertension in patients with heart failure, cardiogenic shock temporary and durable mechanical support device therapy, and heart transplantation, including multi-organ transplantation. We will also present State-of-the-Art lectures on cardiac amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, myocarditis, and adult congenital heart disease. The sessions will be interactive, partially case-based presentations and review guidelines and evidence gaps. The learner should come away with a better understanding of the expertise of an Advanced Heart Failure Physician/Surgeon and Advanced Practice Provider and the important role of the multi-disciplinary team structure in delivering care: “Shock Team,” “LVAD Team,” “Heart Transplant Team.” The Symposium hopes to forge relationships with Cardiologists and APPs in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex and beyond to share best practices and co-manage patients who need advanced heart failure therapies.
Target Audience
This course is designed for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and physical therapists in the specialties of Cardiology and Surgery (Thoracic and Cardiac.)
Learning Objectives
- Identify patients with advanced heart failure who would benefit from referral for LVAD therapy or heart transplantation.
- Apply evidence-based methods, including guideline-directed medical therapy and advanced diagnostic measures, in the evaluation of advanced heart failure patients.
- Recognize cardiogenic shock stages using the SCAI classification.
- Select appropriate temporary mechanical support devices based on patient needs and clinical evidence.
- Apply current diagnostic tools and therapies for cardiac amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, and myocarditis.
- Update clinical knowledge regarding the latest drug therapies for these conditions.
- Evaluate patient eligibility for LVAD therapy based on current clinical guidelines.
- Apply evidence-based practices for post-LVAD care and long-term management.
- Assess ACHD patients with heart failure for eligibility for advanced therapies such as LVAD or multi-organ transplantation.
- Utilize risk stratification tools to guide treatment planning.
- Implement multidisciplinary team models to improve coordination of care and enhance patient outcomes in advanced heart failure management.
